Tech Geeks Assemble!

Hi folks! I'm an interesting person who does interesting things, but right now you don't get to hear about it! That's right fellow readers, you've stood idly by long enough and now it's time to give back to the community.

Here's the game: I'm looking for software that does certain things, I will describe these things as best I can and then you (the readers) can post in the comments either the name of the software that does what I want, or (for more points) a link to where I can get said software (preferably for free). Things like price (being free is best) usefulness and response time will also increase the number of points I give. If you have a cracked version that I can get from you when I see you that still counts.

Without further ado I give you my software descriptions:

-converts video files to a file type that can play in DVD players/some DVD burning software that does said task.

-Alcohol 120%, because that's a great program but I don't know where the install files are on my PC. (I might look for them more thoroughly later)

-Software that allows you to do time-shifting, recording, and automatically skips commercials for PCs with cable hooked up to the graphics card. (If you find something that just skips commercials, that would also be great, maybe even worth bonus points.)

-Software that allows you to have two different backgrounds when using a dual monitor setup.

I had more ideas before, but I lost them while typing the introduction. Check back later to see if I edit the list, I'll add ideas as they come to me.

The challenge will last 15 arbitrary units of time. I will thank ahead of time all those that participate.

As for why I need said software, well, if things go through I'll make a post about it. Until then it will remain mysterious.

I have a cracked copy of Nero 7.0 Ultra. I'm pretty sure that it's up to your burning demands. Also, it has a "scene sensing" feature which cuts up a file that you stick in it into several smaller files. That might help you remove commercials, but only on things that you're already burning to DVD. Also, I used it and it kind of blew ass. But I only used it once, so it's not a guarantee that it's awful.

For almost all converting, SUPER is, well, super. I believe it can convert AVI files to the audio_ts and video_ts folders and files needed on a DVD, then you can just burn those with Nero or whatever. It's free, just google SUPER video and I imagine you'll get right to the website.

ultramon is a great choice when it comes to managing dual monitor setups. Both Granite and I use it regularly, with good success.

I've got a... "permanent demo".... kicking around here somewhere...

I've got an alcohol installer somewhere too, but I don't know where... perhaps it's lost to the abyss.

Hooray!

Thanks for the tip on SUPER Binks, I knew there had to be freeware that did what I needed because I have a freeware program that does the same thing for audio files.

I've got the program downloaded, just not installed yet. So I found it, but I can't tell you what I think of it yet. I trust your call.

Ultramon is working with amazing success. I don't know what happened last time. But this time, I did the same thing as last time. And...I don't know. Binkle made it work through magic.

I might have an easier time with finding the Alcohol installer for you. I still have a copy of Binks Amazing CD kicking around somewhere that has the install and the crack for it.

It truly is an Amazing CD. Although it is really a DVD.

Also, while we're on the topic, does anyone know of a good program for ripping from a DVD and converting to .avi all in one smooth, time-consuming motion?

To boil it down, I need something that goes:

DVD --> DVD Image --> .avi

Dammit you beat me to the Ultramaon!

I use it day after day at home and it works like a charm. You can manage wallpapers, screensavers, use shortcut keys to throw your current window on ur other monitor (fun) it really IS useful with a dual monitor setup.

Did you get it?
